THE WHARTON GLOBAL HIGH SCHOOL INVESTMENT COMPETITION – THE JOURNEY….
The competition is held under the Aegis of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. We Suchitrans are proud to announce our participation in this Competition.
The Journey began from 31st of August when we registered for the Competition after attending a webinar conducted by the Organisers, Kara Dunn, Associate Director Marketing and Sarah Sweeny, Operations Assistant. The webinar gave us an insight onto to the path we were embarking on.
The team members being limited in each team, had to be selected and finalised. An online test was conducted to check the aptitude of the students to form the teams. Each team comprising of 7 students was headed by a team leader. The respective teams chose the names of their teams and registered under their advisors to move ahead.
The teams were packed with enthusiasm, excitement, the client profile and the resources that they would require during their way ahead. An amount of $1,00,000 was allotted to each team and they were given access to the stocktrak.com, a platform for the students to trade in the stocks listed therein. The case profile was their road map to their destination.
Trading started and the bullish and bearish instincts of the participants emerged. Each trading was meticulously planned and forecasts were reviewed. During the journey, they were kept updated with various webinars and other related articles. Meetings were held with the teams to help them understand the concepts of various terms like Cash flow, Risk diversity, Balance Sheet, etc.
Mr Harshal Patkar, Deputy Vice President, AU Small Finance Bank, helped us understand the market situations and various nuances of the Investment strategy.2nd of November the teams submitted their mid-term reviews. We had reached our first destination.
As we took off for the next destination, we were well equipped with Leadership skills, Accounting Concepts, sufficient resources, and a well-planned strategy. More investments and trading at the Stocktrak.com, followed by Team meetings and discussions helped us continue the journey. The results of the mid-term reviews were announced. The final Reviews had to be submitted on 11th December, 2020.
Client Profile, Plans, Future prospects, Trend Analysis, Comparisons, Sectoral investments, etc., were considered and the final strategy was penned down. Both the teams submitted their work on time and the same uploaded in the website. Awaiting results.
The journey so far has been an enthralling, educative, totally new and with a practical approach. It was a wonderful experience giving us an outlook on the overseas way and methodology of conducting Competitions and helped us raise our bar to meet the standards set. Interactions with various Internationally acclaimed renowned and eminent speakers at the webinars and their ideas and ideologies ignited the curiosity levels of the students. Team building and leadership skills along with planning and coordination, analytical thinking, keeping in view the long-term investment strategies were developed in the course of the journey. It’s been a treat to be a part of this journey and I’m sure each member of the team has emerged as a much richer individual in terms of knowledge and skills. This journey is sure to help them take confident strides ahead as an individual, a team or a Team Leader. Good Luck! Grade XI and XII students with Mrs. Mithu and Mrs Shweta as Guides for the Program.
