The students of Grade XII – Commerce had the privilege of interacting with Ms Anitha Shankar, Co-Founder, Astu Eco, based at Bangalore. Ms Anitha, an adventure sports lover, an avid trekker, and an alumnus of NOLS, has always loved being close to nature.
The students were introduced to the stark reality of the harmful effects of plastic. They were then led through the journey of Astu Eco, it’s purpose, products, process, creating an awareness among the masses and dissuading them from using plastic in any form. She highlighted the process of using Areca leaves, sugarcane fibre and paper and emphasized on how it helps providing job opportunities and enhancing women empowerment. A poster making activity made the students realize that they could voice their concern and spread the message in a fun yet effective manner.
The motive of the session was to ignite the thought process in the future generation to combat this impending peril. The questions put across by the students leaves no doubt that most of them are eager to lead by setting examples for the others to follow.
Waste Not, Want Not!
