HOLIDAY HOMEWORK-A TEACHER’S PERSPECTIVE by our English mentor Latha Vydianathan
Innovation in teaching improves pupil’s self-esteem, motivation and achievement. Holiday Homework is a very thoughtful practice at Suchitra Academy. Students are encouraged to think creatively and independently, yet being within the boundaries of the framework and criteria assigned by the Mentor. Free time allows students to discover ideas and explore. Willing to work beyond lesson time when pursuing an idea or vision encourages students to develop their creative skills which is best achieved while they are on a holiday. As a result, their pace of learning, levels of achievement and self-esteem increases.
To me as a teacher correcting the holiday homework was in itself a pleasure filled moment which allowed me to delve into the thoughts of young minds. Innovative ideas, creative display, and use of technology were some of the wonderful aspects of holiday homework this year. I just realised the bright side of lockdown, which brought such wonderful assignments that the students created bringing cheer to their lockdown period and mine!
