9th November,2020, Pre Primary had a virtual interactive activity “Farm to Plate ”
The virtual Vegetable vendor’s day was an unusual and interesting activity for kids to bring closure to the ‘Farm To Plate’ learning they did in class.Oh!!!!! What a sight to watch when children dressed to perfection as vegetable vendors and repeating ‘Kuragaylamma kuragayalu, Bhaji le lo bhaji ‘ imitating vendors exactly, as they do in real life. The immense effort parents took to make them look like authentic vegetable vendors for the performances was indeed commendable.
We absolutely loved the sweet, simple explanations they gave that fruits and veggies they were selling were fresher and more nutritious than the supermarkets.Cultivating an attitude of gratitude is a healthy thing to do and teaching children about people engaged in every manner of food production: ploughing, planting, harvesting, transporting and selling in markets is a wonderfully inclusive way to help preschool children to understand how our food comes to the table. It helps children appreciate and thank the people who grow, transport, sell and prepare our food. It also helps promote thankfulness.
We ensure that every child understands and feels thankful for what they have. Taking a child from the known notions of colour, texture, the taste of fruits and vegetables to the unknown factor of the people toiling to place that food on our table was an immensely beautiful journey that we took with our children. The most valuable imprint which we were able to leave with this lesson was a feeling of gratitude in the children!
